Oxford picks up garbage twice a week: Monday and Thursday north of Jackson Avenue, Tuesday and Friday south. Environmental Services: 662-232-2359.

Last checked Oct. 12, 2026. Facts on this page come from the City of Oxford’s Environmental Services page, its Recycling Department page, the city’s 2026 holiday schedule (PDF) and Lafayette County’s Solid Waste and Recycling page.

The City of Oxford’s Environmental Services Department picks up household garbage at homes inside the city limits twice a week, and collects bulk trash (furniture, appliances, yard debris and other large items) on a separate day by area. Curbside recycling is a sign-up service, and three drop-off sites take recycling on weekdays. Homes outside the city limits are served by Lafayette County, once a week.

What day is my pickup?

The city is split into two garbage zones, according to the Environmental Services page:

Where you live Garbage days
North of Jackson Avenue, north of Highway 6 West and the Rivers Hill area Monday and Thursday
South of Jackson Avenue and south of Highway 6 West Tuesday and Friday

Check your address on the city’s garbage collection map. The city counts as garbage any waste generated inside the home.

Bulk trash: furniture, appliances and yard debris

Large items, which the city calls “rubbish,” go out on a separate collection day that depends on your part of town. Look it up on the city’s bulk collection map. The city lists these items, and says they should be at the curb only on your bulk collection day:

  • Appliances and metal items
  • Furniture, mattresses, rugs and small sections of carpet
  • Grass clippings and tree branches
  • Lumber, bricks and small sections of concrete

Recycling

Curbside. Curbside recycling is available to city residents who sign up on the city’s page. Lamar and Jackson avenues split the city into four recycling zones; the map on that page shows yours.

Drop-off sites. Three sites take residents’ recycling, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday:

  • The Municipal Center (City Shop) on Molly Barr Road, beside the police station
  • Highway 7 South, next to Fire Station No. 3
  • The recycling center at the city transfer station (the old landfill) on County Road 321, Pea Ridge Road

What goes in, according to the Recycling Department: rinsed aluminum and steel cans; No. 1 and No. 2 plastic bottles and jugs; mixed paper, including magazines, junk mail and paper sacks; clean newspaper; and flattened cardboard. Put everything in loose, with no bags. No glass and no foam. Businesses take their recyclables to the transfer station recycling center, not the residential drop-off sites.

Holiday schedule

The city’s 2026 holiday schedule lists these remaining changes. The transfer station stays open unless noted.

Batteries, oil, paint and other items

The Recycling Department lists stores that take items the city does not. Among them: used motor oil, up to 5 gallons a visit, at AutoZone (662-234-8288); used car batteries at AutoZone and CARQUEST (662-234-7813); household batteries at ACE Hardware; and plastic shopping bags at Walmart (662-234-9131). Half-full gallons of good paint can be donated to Habitat for Humanity at Oxford Paint Supply on North Lamar (662-513-4565). For medicines and other medical waste, the city lists G & M Pharmacy, 2159 S. Lamar Blvd. (662-236-2222), and Walgreens, 1808 University Ave. (662-513-0894). Call ahead; these are the businesses’ own programs.

Outside the city limits

Lafayette County’s Solid Waste Department picks up household garbage once a week. Its rules: bag and tie garbage, put it in the county roll-out can within 5 feet of the road by 7 a.m., keep each bag under 35 pounds, and do not block the mailbox. Furniture, appliances, limbs and leaves are picked up on request: use the large waste item pickup form. No paint, chemicals, car batteries, syringes or tires. The county’s page lists pickup days by road and subdivision, and residents can pay the solid waste bill online.
