Memorial Day 2027 is Monday, May 31, a week after the last day of school in both Oxford-area districts. City offices close, garbage and recycling usually run as normal, and the city pool has opened for the holiday. No ceremony or parade for 2027 had been announced as of Oct. 12; we add them as organizers post them.

The University of Mississippi’s music department holds a free Veterans Day concert at the Ford Center each November; in 2026 it is 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11 (Visit Oxford listing).

Trash pickup and closings

The city’s 2027 holiday schedule is not out yet. For Memorial Day 2026, the holiday schedule said:

  • City offices closed.
  • Garbage and recycling routes stayed the same.
  • Monday bulk trash routes were picked up a day late, on Tuesday; Tuesday bulk routes moved to Wednesday.

The city pool

The Oxford City Pool, on Washington Avenue across from Stone Park, was open on Memorial Day in 2026, the Park Commission said. Its general swim hours were 1 to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, and children under 14 and non-swimmers must be with an adult who can swim. School’s out

  • Oxford School District: last day for students is Monday, May 24, 2027, an early dismissal day (calendar).
  • Lafayette County School District: graduation Saturday, May 22; last day for students Tuesday, May 25; Memorial Day, May 31, is a holiday (calendar).
