Two public school districts serve the Oxford area. The Oxford School District runs seven schools for about 4,800 students from pre-K through 12th grade, and the Lafayette County School District serves much of the surrounding county from its campus on Commodore Drive. Both earned an A from the state for the 2024-25 school year.

Registering a student

Oxford registration is online, and the district says a student is not enrolled until both steps are done: register online, then upload the required documents. New students, families who moved and anyone needing an affidavit must bring proof of residency in person; documents with a P.O. box are not accepted. Seventh graders and new students need a current Mississippi 121 immunization form. Pre-K for 3- and 4-year-olds has its own application.

The Oxford School District Board of Trustees usually meets the fourth Monday of the month at 5 p.m. at the Oxford Early Childhood Center. The board calendar lists regular meetings on Oct. 26, Nov. 16 and Dec. 14. Agendas and minutes are on OAgendas.
