State report card
Lafayette Middle earned a B for 2025-26, with 425 of 700 possible points, in the Mississippi Department of Education’s results file, released Oct. 15, 2026. An elementary or middle school needed 402 points for a B and 457 for an A this year. The Lafayette County School District as a whole earned an A with 703 points.
From the same file and the school’s report card:
| Measure, 2025-26 | Lafayette Middle |
|---|---|
| Reading proficiency | 45.8% |
| Math proficiency | 71.1% |
| Science proficiency | 62.8% |
| Reading growth, all students | 53.5% |
| Math growth, all students | 79.3% |
| Chronically absent students | 21.1% |
Mississippi grades every school and district from A to F. For elementary and middle schools the state counts test scores in English, math and science, how much students improve from one year to the next, with extra weight on the lowest-performing 25% of students, and English learners’ progress, according to its guide to the system (PDF). Because the writing part of the English test was field tested in 2026, the state calculated this year’s grades from the higher of the 2025-26 or 2024-25 English results. The state raised the bar this year and says 2025-26 grades set a new baseline that “cannot be compared to grades for previous school years.”
Attendance zone
The county district runs one school for each grade band, so every district student in seventh and eighth grade is assigned to Lafayette Middle. Students arrive from Lafayette Upper Elementary, which takes third through sixth grade, and move on to Lafayette High School.
The district’s boundaries map (PDF) shades the Oxford School District area apart from the five county school board districts. Most city addresses are in the Oxford School District, whose school for these grades is Oxford Middle. Confirm an address with the Lafayette County Tax Assessor at 662-234-5562. We found no boundary change approved by the school board.
