Enrollment and teachers
The most recent federal count, from the NCES directory for the 2023-24 school year, is 259 children and 20 full-time-equivalent teachers, about 13 children per teacher. The state’s 2025-26 report card counts 28.5 teacher FTEs at the school.
The district says the center uses a “school family model,” teaches to the Mississippi Early Learning Standards and focuses on learning, safety and children’s social and emotional development, according to its schools page.
How pre-K admission works
The district takes pre-K registrations once a year, according to its registration page. For the 2026-27 school year:
- Who could apply: children who were 3 (for 3-K) or 4 (for 4-K) on or before Sept. 1, 2026, and who live in the district. Children must be toilet-trained.
- Step 1, online registration: opened Feb. 16 and closed Feb. 27, 2026, after information sessions on Feb. 10.
- Documents: a birth certificate, a Mississippi 121 immunization form and two proofs of residency, brought in person to the center from March 2-6. Documents with a P.O. box are not accepted.
- Step 2, academic screener: an appointment between March 16 and May 22, which the district says plays “an important role in class placement.”
Registration for 2026-27 is closed. Watch the district’s page for the 2027-28 dates.
State report card
The state’s results file, released Oct. 15, 2026, lists the Early Childhood Center with an A for 2025-26 and 480 of 700 possible points, with every figure identical to Bramlett Elementary’s, including 72.7% reading proficiency and 83.3% math proficiency. The school’s report card shows 13.7% of its students chronically absent, meaning they missed at least 10% of the time they were enrolled.
Mississippi grades every school and district from A to F, counting test scores, how much students improve from one year to the next, with extra weight on the lowest-performing 25% of students, and English learners’ progress, according to its guide to the system (PDF). The state says 2025-26 grades set a new baseline that “cannot be compared to grades for previous school years.”
Attendance zone
The Oxford School District runs one school for each grade band, so the center is the district’s only public pre-K site. After pre-K children go to Bramlett Elementary (kindergarten and first grade), then Della Davidson Elementary, Central Elementary, Oxford Intermediate, Oxford Middle and Oxford High.
The district’s boundary does not follow the city limits. Its boundaries page has a map and asks families to confirm a property with the Lafayette County Tax Assessor at 662-234-5562. The Lafayette County School District runs its own pre-K at Lafayette Elementary. We found no boundary change approved by the school board.
Calendar and bell times
The school’s website lists breakfast and drop-off from 7 to 7:40 a.m., classes from 7:40 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. and dismissal from 2:20 to 2:50 p.m.
